Notes from Community Meeting about Addressing Racism and Prejudice in our Schools

85 Parents, students, and teachers got together on March 28th to discuss two essential questions:
1) What do you think needs to be done to better address prejudice, racism, and peer mistreatment at Albany Middle School?
2) What type of support from the school do you need related to this topic?/ What type of support from the school would be needed to put your ideas into action?

Attached are the notes from this meeting with the feedback divided by stakeholder groups. After spring break we will continue the work of looking at next steps. Thanks so much to all who were involved in that discussion as well as those of you who have reached out individually. It is a community effort and there is much work ahead. Thank you!

Dear AMS Families,
AMS Staff wants to thank the community for bearing with us as we worked to safely dismiss our students today. We can imagine that it was quite disruptive to your day and know that it was a slow process. It certainly provided a good learning opportunity for us. Please email Maria Santoyo at if you need to update your emergency contacts in Aeries. We engaged in a a reflection as a staff of the entire process and will be working on improvements for the future. Thank you for all the words of support today and your generous patience.
I hope everyone has a good spring break,
Deborah Brill, Principal
