Everybody Teaches, Everybody Learns

AMC 8

Hello Middle School Families,

The American Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC 8) is an optional timed 40 minute individual exam designed to introduce 8th grade students to creative mathematical problem-solving. This is a chance for students to apply their math skills to unique, "outside-the-box" problems.

Our school will hold the test after school in late January. The school will take care of registering with AMC by the early bird deadline! Students and families DO NOT need to register with AMC at this time. In December, AMS will share a google form that interested students can fill out to complete registration. Again, parents and families DO NOT need to register with AMC at this time. AMS will register as a school site and then add the students later in December.

The test is designed for 8th graders, however all students are welcome to participate. Here is a link to more information about the AMC for more information on the exam. You can find practice tests from previous years here. Please note the AMC has NO BEARING on any placement at AMS or AHS. It is totally optional, and just for fun! Please reach out to Ms. Delaplaine (edelaplaine@ausdk12.org) with any questions.
