Transitioning from AUSD Elementaries

Transitioning from AUSD Elementaries

Albany Middle School hosts several events to transition students and families into middle school, which are detailed below. The specific dates for these programs will be provided to current 5th grade families in the Spring.

Elementary Visits - in May
The AMS principal, counselor, and Where Everybody Belongs (WEB) leaders will be visiting each 5th grade class to answer students’ questions about transitioning to middle school.

AMS Parent Information Night - held in mid-May
All incoming 6th grade parents/guardians are invited to the AMS gym to get an overview of the Albany Middle School 6th grade experience. This is an event for adults only.

Student Tours - held in late May
5th graders come to Albany Middle School from the Albany elementary schools to receive some information from middle school staff and current 6th grade students. Students are then taken on a tour of Albany Middle School.

Where Everybody Belongs (WEB) Incoming 6th Grader Orientation - held the day before school starts in August
This is a robust, student-led, orientation (and program) for our incoming 6th graders. The WEB leaders, next year's 8th graders, will receive extensive training allowing them to help our incoming 6th graders feel welcomed, connected, and supported. WEB is fun, positive, and all about building connections. WEB leaders have a big role in creating the school culture for our 6th graders. This role continues throughout the school year where they will provide support and build their relationship with our new 6th graders.
