Superintendent's Community Update: March 17, 2023

 



Dear Albany Community,

The old saying says March sweeps in like a lion, and we have certainly seen that this week. The rain and high winds early in the week made for more rainy day lunches and recesses at our schools. The Facilities and Maintenance Department has been busy for over two months fixing leaks, often where there haven’t been problems previously, and placing sandbags to keep our classrooms and hallways dry. 

 

Marin Move-In 

Back in November, the construction of the new Marin Elementary School was far ahead of schedule. Construction was projected to be finished in early March, and it made no sense to leave a brand-new, state-of-the-art school empty. We announced that 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders would start back to school after spring break at the new school. Then, the atmospheric river rain events began in late December, and there has barely been a dry week since. This week, I made the decision that we would be returning to our original schedule of moving in over the summer, and welcoming all students back to the new Marin Elementary School this August.

 

Listening Campaign

The Student Achievement Committee has organized a Listening Campaign to hear directly from the community. They are running both Zoom and in-person focus groups over the next several weeks to identify what is going well, as well as what students and families need and how the district can improve. One key part of this campaign is to hear from as many voices as possible, especially those voices that are often unheard. Sign up to help as a campaign promoter, notetaker, or interpreter. Also, you can sign up here to be a participant in a focus group. Let your voice be heard!

 

COVID Isolation Change

With an end declared to California’s COVID-19 state of emergency, and in alignment with recent recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, COVID-19 guidelines have been updated. Beginning on March 20, COVID-19 isolation can end on Day 6 if the individual no longer has symptoms, or if symptoms are mild and improving AND the individual has been fever-free for the past 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. There will no longer be the requirement to test to return to school on Day 6.

 

City of Albany Hazard Plan

The City is in the process of updating its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). A CalOES- and FEMA-approved LMHP is required to be eligible for disaster mitigation grant funding. This 2023 update adds new information and analysis of hazards to the Albany community. The Albany City Council will be reviewing the 2023 LHMP at a study session on Monday, March 20 at 6:00pm. El viejo dicho dice que marzo arrasa como un león, y ciertamente lo hemos visto esta semana. La lluvia y los fuertes vientos a principios de semana provocaron más almuerzos y recreos en los días lluviosos en nuestras escuelas. El Departamento de Instalaciones y Mantenimiento ha estado ocupado durante más de dos meses reparando fugas, a menudo donde no ha habido problemas anteriormente, y colocando sacos de arena para mantener secos los salones de clase y los pasillos.

 

Mudanza en Marín

En noviembre, la construcción de la nueva Escuela Primaria Marin se adelantó mucho a lo previsto. Se proyectó que la construcción estaría terminada a principios de marzo, y no tenía sentido dejar vacía una escuela nueva y moderna. Anunciamos que los estudiantes de 3.°, 4.° y 5.° grado regresarían a la escuela después de las vacaciones de primavera en la nueva escuela. Luego, los eventos de lluvia atmosférica del río comenzaron a fines de diciembre, y desde entonces apenas ha habido una semana seca. Esta semana, tomé la decisión de regresar a nuestro horario original de mudarnos durante el verano y dar la bienvenida a todos los estudiantes a la nueva Escuela Primaria Marin este agosto.

 

Campaña de escucha

El Comité de Aprovechamiento Estudiantil ha organizado una Campaña de Escucha para escuchar directamente a la comunidad. Están organizando grupos de enfoque en Zoom y en persona durante las próximas semanas para identificar qué va bien, así como qué necesitan los estudiantes y las familias y cómo puede mejorar el distrito. Una parte clave de esta campaña es escuchar tantas voces como sea posible, especialmente aquellas voces que a menudo no se escuchan. Regístrese para ayudar como promotor de campaña, anotador o intérprete. Además, puede registrarse aquí para participar en un grupo de enfoque. ¡Deja que se escuche tu voz!

 

Cambio de aislamiento por COVID

Con un   fin declarado al estado de emergencia COVID-19 de California, y en consonancia con las recomendaciones recientes de los Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades, las pautas COVID-19 se han actualizado. A partir del 20 de marzo, el aislamiento por COVID-19 puede terminar el día 6 si la persona ya no tiene síntomas, o si los síntomas son leves y están mejorando Y la persona no ha tenido fiebre durante las últimas 24 horas sin el uso de medicamentos antifebriles . Ya no habrá el requisito de realizar la prueba para regresar a la escuela el día 6.

 

Plan de peligros de la ciudad de Albany

La Ciudad está en proceso de actualizar su Plan Local de Mitigación de Riesgos (LHMP). Se requiere un LMHP aprobado por CalOES y FEMA para ser elegible para la financiación de la subvención de mitigación de desastres. Esta actualización de 2023 agrega nueva información y análisis de peligros a la comunidad de Albany. El Ayuntamiento de Albany revisará el LHMP 2023 en una sesión de estudio el lunes 20 de marzo a las 6:00 p. m. 听力运动

COVID隔离变化

与  结束宣布加州的 COVID-19 紧急状态，并根据疾病控制和预防中心最近的建议，更新了 COVID-19 指南。从 3 月 20 日开始，如果个人不再有症状，或者如果症状轻微并有所改善并且个人在过去 24 小时内没有使用退烧药且没有发烧，则 COVID-19 隔离可以在第 6 天结束.不再需要在第 6 天进行测试才能返回学校。

 

奥尔巴尼市危害计划
