Superintendent's Community Update, March 24, 2023

 

 

Dear Albany Community,

So much goes on at our schools every week it is difficult to mention everything. I want to give a shout-out to the Cornell Coyotes who showed their stuff at two amazing Talent Shows earlier this month, and celebrated the completion of their Fun Fitness Week with a party last Saturday. Also last Saturday, the Marin PTA held their first Moonlight Auction Party after a three-year break. Albany Middle School (AMS) enjoyed Harry Potter Night last Friday, hosted by the student group, Dumbledore’s Army. I welcome the return of all these wonderful traditional events! All the elementary schools and AMS have completed their spring parent/teacher conferences now. Every week is packed with action at our schools.


Listening Campaign Reminder

Our Listening Campaign has started with focus groups meeting at every school and via Zoom. The goal is to listen to parents and guardians face to face, as you share your personal perspective about what's working, what could be better, and what your student needs to succeed. Your voice matters, and can help guide District policy to the benefit of all students and their families. Sign up here to help as a campaign promoter, notetaker, or interpreter. If you can’t make it to a Listening Campaign meeting, there will be another opportunity to share your insights. Next month, we will launch a district-wide survey to collect input on key district initiatives for the next school year. You can, of course, participate in both.


Take Swim Lessons At AAC!

The Albany Aquatic Center is the school district’s own facility, and we are proud of its role in teaching swimming to our community. Registration is open now for the spring session and registration for summer classes is expected to open April 10. Find out more about the pools at AAC’s website, and more about swim lessons here. 


Spring Break Is Coming

Everybody, including Albany Unified’s staff and students, needs a break sometime to relax and renew their energy. Schools and school offices will be closed April 3–7 for our spring break recess.

 

COVID Updates

Following Spring Break, with the COVID state of emergency lifted and in line with many neighboring districts, we will no longer provide “Close Contact” letters. Assume that there is a possibility of COVID exposure in all settings, and please test when experiencing symptoms. As communicated previously, students are permitted to return to school starting on Day 6 without a negative test so long as they have been fever-free for 24 hours and symptoms are mild and improving. AUSD will provide two COVID tests for every student and staff member prior to spring break. Students and staff should take a COVID test on Sunday, April 9, before returning to school the next day and again on Tuesday or Wednesday of that week. Thank you for your cooperation.

Estimada comunidad de Albany,

Suceden tantas cosas en nuestras escuelas cada semana que es difícil mencionar todo. Quiero agradecer a los Coyotes de Cornell que mostraron sus habilidades en dos increíbles espectáculos de talentos a principios de este mes, y celebraron la finalización de su Semana de actividad física divertida con una fiesta el sábado pasado. También el sábado pasado, la PTA de Marin celebró su primera fiesta de subasta Moonlight después de un receso de tres años. La Escuela Secundaria Albany (AMS) disfrutó de la Noche de Harry Potter el viernes pasado, organizada por el grupo estudiantil Dumbledore's Army. ¡Doy la bienvenida al regreso de todos estos maravillosos eventos tradicionales! Recordatorio de la campaña de escucha

Nuestra campaña de escucha ha comenzado con reuniones de grupos focales en cada escuela y a través de Zoom. ¡Toma lecciones de natación en AAC!

El Centro Acuático de Albany es una instalación propia del distrito escolar y estamos orgullosos de su papel en la enseñanza de la natación a nuestra comunidad. Actualizaciones de COVID

Después de las vacaciones de primavera, con el levantamiento del estado de emergencia de COVID y en línea con muchos distritos vecinos, ya no proporcionaremos cartas de "Contacto cercano". Suponga que existe la posibilidad de exposición a COVID en todos los entornos y realice una prueba cuando experimente síntomas. 在 AAC 上游泳课！

春假来了

冠状病毒更新
