Dear Albany Community,
This time of year, we think about transitions. To prepare fifth graders for their transition to middle school, AMS staff have been visiting each elementary school. The incoming sixth grade students met their future counselor and four eighth grade students. On the same day as each school visit, we held a Parent Information Night, so families could discuss this exciting change together.
Fifth graders will walk over to AMS on May 22, 23, and 24, to tour their new school in person, and on the evening of the 24th, we will bring the entire incoming 6th grade class together for Family Orientation in the AMS Gym. Transitions are important—later this month I will provide information about transition planning elsewhere in the District.
April Is Arab American Heritage Month
On Tuesday, school board trustees approved the AUSD Resolution acknowledging and celebrating April as Arab American Heritage Month. I hope that you take a moment to read the Resolution, as it beautifully describes contributions of Arab Americans to our culture and the challenges that are still present. Albany High senior Aya Essiari read the Resolution at the meeting. Elementary classrooms are celebrating by reading books by and about Arab Americans. Students are also learning about the month-long observance of Ramadan, celebrated by Muslim Arab Americans, that runs until April 20. Temporary P.E. exemptions can be requested for students who are fasting during Ramadan.
Spring Break Is Here!
Everybody, including Albany Unified’s staff and students, needs a break sometime to relax and renew their energy. Schools and school offices will be closed April 3–7 for our spring break recess.
COVID Updates
AUSD will provide two COVID tests for every student and staff member prior to spring break. Students and staff should take a COVID test on Sunday, April 9, before returning to school the next day and again on Tuesday or Wednesday of that week.
Following spring break, with the COVID state of emergency lifted and in line with many neighboring districts, we will no longer provide “Close Contact” letters. Assume that there is a possibility of COVID exposure in all settings, and please test when experiencing symptoms. As communicated previously, students are permitted to return to school starting on Day 6 without a negative test so long as they have been fever-free for 24 hours and symptoms are mild and improving.

Transiciones, Mes de la Herencia Árabe Americana, Vacaciones de Primavera y Actualizaciones de COVID

Actualizaciones de COVID

冠状病毒更新
