Golden Gate Fields Announcement
On July 16, 2023, it was announced that Golden Gate Fields will be ending its operation as a horse racing track in December 2023. Albany Unified School District is aware of this situation and acknowledges that the transition may have impacts on the District.
The City of Albany has posted an excellent web page explaining financial implications for the city, and the zoned uses for this Albany property.
AUSD receives parcel tax revenue from The Stronach Group, owners of Golden Gate Fields. Last year, this revenue totaled $590,000.00. If the property is sold to other private owners, this revenue would continue. If the property is sold to tax-exempt entities, or a mixture of taxable and tax-exempt owners, the District would potentially lose some or all of this revenue. There are many possible scenarios, and the District will be monitoring developments. However, the Golden Gate Fields transition will not affect AUSD’s budget for the current school year, and may take some time to accomplish.
