Dear Parents/Guardians,
It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden and unexpected passing of Superintendent Frank Wells on March 11, 2024. Dr. Wells held a deep commitment to education that guided his more than 30 years of public service. As an education leader, he was a fierce advocate for all students and didn’t hesitate to make waves in support of students of color. Dr. Wells brought wit, humor, and a willingness to roll up his sleeves to help wherever he was needed. He will be sorely missed, but his passion serves as an inspiration for us all.
District leadership is deeply saddened by this sudden loss of our beloved and respected Superintendent. However, school will proceed normally, as would be his wish. Resources will be available to staff to help process grief and the strong emotions that accompany unforeseen loss.
Dr. Wells loved spending time at all Albany schools, speaking with students and staff and observing first-hand how the schools were running. Many students, as well as staff and parents, knew and recognized him. In times like these, it's natural to have questions and concerns about death. As parents, you may find yourselves navigating difficult conversations with your children about loss and grief. In particular, students who have experienced previous loss might feel this especially deeply. To support you during this challenging time, we would like to offer some resources and guidance on how to talk to your children about death in an age-appropriate manner.

Con profunda tristeza compartimos el repentino e inesperado fallecimiento del Superintendente Frank Wells el 11 de marzo de 2024.
