It’s Hispanic Heritage Month, which celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans with Hispanic and Latino heritage. Today we’re recognizing Lin-Manuel Miranda, the celebrated Puerto-Rican actor, composer, rapper and writer. He created and starred in the hit Broadway musicals Hamilton and In the Heights. He also composed most of the music for Moana. He has won a Pulitzer Prize, 2 Grammys, an Emmy, a MacArthur “Genius” Award, and 11 Tony awards, among others. Miranda is also a strong supporter of Latino and Hispanic causes, including the Hispanic Federation, a nonprofit that supports Hispanics in areas of education, health, immigration, civic engagement, economic empowerment and the environment. This weekend, he released the song "Almost like Praying" to raise funds for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico.

Here’s a quote from Lin-Manuel: “(Hamilton is) A story that reminds us that since the beginning of the great, unfinished symphony that is our American experiment, time and time again, immigrants get the job done.”

Students are asked to not buy or sell items, including candy, here at school. Doing so is against school rules and will result in detentions and having to return the money. Please note that students cannot sell anything coming to or leaving school either. Thank you.
