Today for National Native American Heritage Month, we’re recognizing Russell Means, an Oglala Lakota activist, writer, and Hollywood actor, born in November, 1939, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Up to his death in 2012, Means fought tirelessly for indigenous people's rights around the world, including participating in both the 1964 and 1969 Occupations of Alcatraz we heard about in the last two weeks. He said, "The one thing I've always maintained is that I'm an American Indian. I'm not politically correct."
Over the last several years, we have added space and equipment for four square, tetherball, and wallball/handball to our blacktop for lunchtime activities - all based on ideas from students. Our second student focus group will be held at lunch (pizza will be provided!) on Tuesday, December 5th, to gather student feedback and ideas about current lunchtime activities. Make your voice heard! Sign up this week on the clipboard outside the library. We can take the first 18 students who sign up.
Come see AMS Drama Club students "Make a Scene!" This performance of ten short dramatic scenes will be held in the AMS library from 6-8 pm this Friday Dec. 1st. Admission is "Pay What You Can," and all proceeds benefit the AMS Drama Club. Seating is first come, first served. Hope to see you there!
All cast and crew for the Drama Club Scene Showcase should meet in the AMS library for rehearsal today from 4-6pm and on Thursday from 4-6 pm. See you there!
