Announcements: Monday, January 29th

Dr. King's civil rights vision in the 1960s led to real changes, including politicians of color both deciding to run for office and winning elections. African American leadership grew in the Bay Area during the 1980s and 1990s. San Francisco Assemblyman Willie Brown was speaker of the assembly, reigning from 1980 to 1995 as one of California's most powerful politicians. Lionel Wilson was mayor of Oakland, with African American majorities on the City Council and School Board. In 1979, Gus Newport became the first black mayor of Berkeley. And we recognize our current Bay Area leaders: Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Black Lives Matter founder Alicia Garza, and Senator Kamala Harris.

Congratulations to the Cobra Science Bowl Team for their hard work all year and great showing at the competition this Saturday.  Great job representing our school!

Attention, AMS Jazz Band: this is an important reminder of your concert at Yoshi’s tonight. Meet at 7:20 pm. Thank you!

Starting today, we are implementing a minor change to our tardy policy because many of our students who are late to their first class do not control that they are late. Tardies to a student’s first class will be counted separately from their tardies to subsequent classes. For first class tardies, students will receive an after-school detention for every 5th tardy. Tardies for classes once on campus will maintain the same consequences. Please see the flyers on campus for more information.

7th graders: Please return your elective sheets to your core teacher by Thursday, Feb. 1

6th graders: Please return your elective sheets to the class where you received your presentation by Thursday, Feb. 1

The Albany Black Parent Advisory Group is holding a poetry contest open to all AUSD students! The deadline is this Thursday, February 1st - please ask your English teacher or find one of the flyers hanging up around the school for details.
