I know many of you have heard about the Women's March National School Walkout this Wednesday at 10am for 17 minutes. This is not a school-sponsored event, but there have been a lot of questions that I would like to take a moment to address. We know that, in light of national events, school safety is an issue that resonates widely among both students and staff. We also know that, as middle school students, you are of an age where you are able to weigh the different options and determine what you will do. Students who walk out will receive an unexcused absence for that period. This is not meant to discourage or encourage; it is simply the natural consequence for missing class.  We need to be consistent with consequences for students taking action on any political issue, regardless of what side of the issue they are on.  What we ask is that you make your decision based on your convictions, as well as any other factors that come into play for you.  We also ask that you please keep safety in mind and that those of you who do decide to leave will join the high school students on Cougar Field and return to class right after that event before the start of 4th period. (Anyone not returning at the time will have guardians notified immediately, as we would not know where you are and need to ensure your safety.) This announcement is meant as information and not meant to advise you as what to do - that is a decision for you.
