Get ready to bust some smoking myths! Alameda County is running a contest to create a public service announcement with the theme of "Myth Busters: Big Tobacco, Big Lies." Teams of one to four can make a poster, audio or video PSA, and it must include a big tobacco myth and/or fact from a reputable source. Please see the flyers posted around school for allowed sources and other details. PSAs are most effective when they feel relevant to their target audience, so keep in mind that your target audience is middle schoolers. The prizes range from $25 to $100 and the deadline is *this* Friday, so get creating!

Students, I wanted to have a chance to say how proud we are of all of you for last Wednesday.  It’s tricky in our position as a public school to need to hold the same lines in place for all students regardless of situation, regardless of political beliefs.  Please do not misunderstand our need to be consistent with attendance policies as more than that. Many of you took a stand and were part of a powerful student-run experience on Cougar Field, and others went on to participate in what I have heard from many of you was an inspiring experience at St. Alban’s.  There are times in life when standing up for what you believe in takes a sacrifice. Those of you who take a stand for your convictions have my respect. Also, know that those of you who chose not to attend for whatever reason there was for you also showed strength to do what was right for you. I do know that regardless of your choices and actions on Wednesday, we are all together in wanting our schools throughout the US to be safe places.  Thank you.
