Today, AMS is having their first Kick Butts Day. Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism that empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against big tobacco companies. Each year, over 1,000 events take place across the United States. As you entered school this morning, we had a “Walk of Shame” display, showing pictures and facts of famous public figures that have dealt with drug or alcohol abuse, and at lunch we will be hosting a scavenger hunt in the gym looking at the advertising campaigns of e-cigarette/vaping companies. Prizes will be awarded to the first 100 students that complete the scavenger hunt correctly. C’mon down and check out the vaping ads and earn a cool prize in the process!!! See you there!!!
Get ready to bust some smoking myths! Alameda County is running a contest to create a public service announcement with the theme of "Myth Busters: Big Tobacco, Big Lies." Teams of one to four can make a poster, audio or video PSA, and it must include a big tobacco myth and/or fact from a reputable source. Please see the flyers posted in rooms 107 and 109 for allowed sources and other details. PSAs are most effective when they feel relevant to their target audience, so keep in mind that your target audience is middle schoolers. The prizes range from $25 to $100 and the deadline is *this* Friday, so get creating!
At lunch today:
- Lunch Crew is canceled. See you next week!
- Come to the Kick Butts Day scavenger hunt in the gym!
Stage Crew is meeting after school tomorrow, Thursday March 22nd, at 3:15 in the art room.
