Hello Families,
We want to make sure that you are aware that there is a National School Walkout being planned for April 20th at 10am protesting congressional, state, and local failures to take action to prevent gun violence. (For more information: https://www.nationalschoolwalkout.net/ While we stand behind the message of school safety and appreciate the value in youth finding their voice, we also need you to know this is not a school-sanctioned event and students' absences will be unexcused.
We understand that a group of students are planning to walk up to UC Berkeley to Sather Gate. Please talk with your children to see what their intentions are. We have some concerns related to safety in that setting and know that protests can be unpredictable. Complicating it further is that Friday, 4/20, is a marijuana holiday, which will inspire participation from those celebrating that event.
Our plan as a school will be to take attendance at the beginning of 3rd period and call families whose students started the day on campus and then left so that you are aware that your children are no longer in our care. Again, please talk with your child so that you are on the same page.
Please feel free to reach out to me directly with any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Deborah Brill
