General Information

BIG CONGRATULATIONS TEAM! Great effort at our Championship finals last night. Albany took third overall out of 12 schools with 190 points. Martinez took second place with 261 points, and Stanley, first place with 364 points. It was an inspiring night and we are so proud and impressed by all the athletes.

Please see results for the A Meet as well as the 6th Grade championship at

Finally, our end of season party is this coming Monday at 3:15 at the Snack Shack behind the track. We will have treats, and awards to pass out, then kids are welcome to stay and play Frisbee, or the team favorite, banana tag. Things to remember for Monday:

1. Bring track jerseys to return. If you do not return your jersey you will be charged for it.

2. Bring cash donation for party food, suggested $5.

Thank you all for your help and support throughout the season. There is no way we could have pulled it off with out all the help from parents and volunteers. Getting outside to share skills and fitness with the team is hugely rewarding and we are so filled with gratitude for all you do to empower your kids. Thank you, and see you soon!

Week of 5/28/18

We have made it to the last week of our season. The B meet last Wednesday, and the Sixth Grade Championship was hugely successful. Several athletes scored personal bests, and others stepped out of their comfort zones to compete in new events. Every effort helped our team score points, and many ribbons were earned across the board. Please see attached excel doc to the right for the awesome Piedmont results!

If your athlete has completed their season, please turn in uniforms this week to the office, or to Nick and Dana in the front of the school at 3:15 on Tuesday or Wednesday (yes, 3:15 on Weds).

This week we have the 7th/8th A Championships at Acalanes High School. The meet starts at 5 PM both days. Coach Nick and I will meet athletes in front of the school at 3:15 BOTH days to ride the bus to the meet. We encourage the A Team to attend both days to support the team, if they can. The schedule of events are listed below. Also, check out the attached file, 7th, 8th A Schedule of Events, to the right.

A FINAL NOTE--Track Team Athletic Donations
We are very behind on our team's donations and haven't even covered the cost of one bus yet. Please consider making your AMS Athletics donation-- our kids can't have school sports without your contributions. Please know this is not mandatory, but the suggested donation is $140/athlete/sport and any amount helps. You can donate easily via PayPal (make sure you note AMS Track & Field in the notes section), or print out the Donation Form and submit with check to the AMS main office.

Very excited to see our athletes compete this week. Happy Memorial Day! Hope you are enjoying time with family and friends this weekend.

Week of 5/20/18

First week of Championships is upon us!

ALL SIXTH GRADERS will attend the 6th Grade "A" meet this Thursday, May 24th, back at Alhambra High.If you know your sixth grader cannot attend this day, please let Coach Dana know so she can open that event entry to another athlete.

SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS will be receiving their meet assignments Monday and Tuesday--super important they attend practice, or let us know if they are not available to attend the Championship meets.

We will have bus transportation for all athletes this week. If you are looking for ways to support the team here are opportunities:

1. Parent volunteers needed to help run the meet on May 23rd at Piedmont, and May 29th and 30th at Acalanes.

2. Snack donations on meet days--you can leave in office and we will transport to the meet.

3. Donate to the Boosters!

Excited to see you all at Champs!

Week of 5/14/18-5/17/18

We Need Drivers for Thursday's Track Meet, Alhambra High in Martinez, 2.45pm Departure
We need several more drivers to help get our athletes to this Thursday's meet in Martinez. Please Sign Up!
If you'd like to send snacks/drinks to help feed hungry kids, please drop them in the office and coaches will pick them up before departure. Other important reminders for away meets:
  • Please email me if your student will NOT attend this or next Thursday or is no longer on the team.
  • Pack uniform, warm coat, tons of water, and tons of food-- they may not return until 8pm or later.
  • If you plan to pick up your own child directly from the meet, you must sign them out with Coach Dana or Coach Nick. Only approved drivers can take home other students-- otherwise coaches are fully liable for all students until they are back to campus.
Corrected Dates for "A" Championships are May 29 & 30, Tue & Wed

Heads up for week of 5/7/18-5/10/18:

Tomorrow, Wednesday we will have team pictures on Cougar Field at 4 o'clock. Please bring your uniforms. We will have our normal practice first, at 2:20, then pictures to follow.

Still need volunteers for Thursday, drivers, and meet officials to run field and running events. Please sign up!

Still hoping for more donations--support our program and drop your donation at the office or bring to practice. Thank you!

Finally, check out the special links to the right-------------------->

1. Picture Order From for you to print and send with athlete tomorrow.

Reach out if you need anything. Grateful for your participation and support!

Congratulations Cobras! We successfully pulled off our home meet, with strong performances and PR's across the board. Huge thanks to all the parent and student volunteers, especially Christine Loizeaux and Hyunka Lee who did a phenomenal job orchestrating athlete sign-ins and coordinating our team of parents. We could not have done it with out you!

Stay tuned for meet results. We are stoked to enter and disperse all the glorious times and distances achieved last night, and will share that data with you as soon as we can.

Next week we will be co-hosting at King Middle School. If you would like another chance to volunteer at the meet or transport athletes please sign up via the following link: volunteer sign-up sheet

Also, let's make a team effort to remember donations this week! Let's hit our fundraising goal so we can pay for supplies and BUSES! If you can, please turn checks into office, or have athletes deliver to me at practice--appreciate it!

Finally, I would like to provide some clarity about the "A" and "B" championship meets. We can only take top qualifiers of each event to the the "A" meet. Everyone else will attend the "B." Times and distances are based off all meets leading up to the championships. This means we will not know with certainty who is going to each meet until the conclusion of our meet on May 17th. Both meets are incredibly fun and we are excited to support athletes at whichever meet makes most sense for them!

See you soon!

Nick and Dana

Weekly Announcements: (Week of April 2-6)

Dear Parents,

Coach Nick and I are so excited to get this 2018 track season started! I would first like to share a bit about myself and coaching expectations. This will be my fourth season heading up the AMS Track and Field Team. I have also coached middle school and high school cross country, counseled at summer running camps, and worked one on one with special needs athletes. I’ve worked as a gait analyst, and extensively studied running bio-mechanics (if you have questions about form, shoes, or just want to geek out with me please reach out!). Through high school and college I competed in distance events. Though my first love is running, I have I’ve grown fond of field events in the respect that they add a level of skill and strength required of a well-rounded athlete.

In the spirit of being well-rounded, athletes will have the opportunity to try all the events at practice. As the season progresses they will be able to focus on their favorite skills, but at the middle school level it is essential that we encourage kids to step out of their comfort zones and work on areas that feel unnatural. Here is a quick list of other expectations:

  1. Attitude- Athletes should come to practice mentally prepared to work, with open-mindedness, and encouragement for their teammates.
  2. Gear- Come to practice with proper shoes, weather appropriate athletic/gym clothes, a water bottle, and if possible, a digital stop watch or timer.
  3. Attendance- Come to every practice and meet on time. If other activities conflict with track, our policy is that students must attend at least THREE DAYS a week, but this is with parental consent, so please let me know about an absence ahead of time. When it comes time to sign up for a limited number of spots at meets, attendance and attitude will trump skill. To qualify for the final championship meet, athletes must compete in three prior meets.

Next, Assistant Coach Nick and I are looking for VOLUNTEERS. If you have experience in a certain event or would like to help supervise, please send me an email. Also, no experience necessary! We would love to have extra hands to organize and encourage kids. We will also need around ten volunteers to help us host our two home meets—the official schedule of meets will be ready mid-April. Thanks for your flexibility!

Hope to see you all at the Parent Meeting on Wednesday April 4th at 6:00pm in the AMS gym!

If you would like to get in touch with me, please send me an email. I cannot wait to meet your athletes and am so thrilled to be a part of Albany’s track and field program.

Love and lunges!

Coach Dana Capps
