English and History

In 8th Grade English and History Core classes, we ask that all students ask questions, think deeply and work together as a community in their investigations of U.S. history, literature and in their own personal and analytical writing.

In United States History, students will study a wide variety of perspectives in the “making” of the United States. In English class, students will be developing the strength of their own writing voices through a broad variety of genres (analytical essays, stories, poetry, speeches and research papers).

Students will also engage with diverse, challenging texts which enhance the overarching themes of both history and English - including the tension between an individual and their community and what happens when various worlds and ideas collide.
